Surgeon-Major Ambrose Henry Palmer of The Yews, Barton-under-Needwood, was born on 6.12.1869 and was educated at Rossall School. Mentioned in Despatches in 1917, he died of wounds received at Wadi Imleih on 2.5.1917, while tending the wounded during operations with the Anzac Mounted Division. Major Palmer is buried in Cairo War Cemetery.
