The circular white-enamelled dial with Arabic chapters, the drum case surmounted by a pair of cooing doves amid clouds and flower garlands and flanked by two reclining putti, the frieze panel with foliate scrolls and paired winged lions at the center, on toupie feet, the back of the movement with engraved number 3684

Joseph Coteau (1740-1812), mailleur, worked for the Svres porcelain factory from 1780-84. His earliest known enamelwork is dated 1789, from which time he appears to have produced both portrait miniatures and clock dials.

This mantel clock, emblematic of Love and Music, is surmounted by billing doves, another highly popular symbol of love as the spring of life.
