WILLIAM SALTER (1804-1875)
A collection of papers relating to the painter's best known work, The Waterloo Banquet at Apsley House, currently in the collection at Apsley House, London, comprising
i) Three passports relating to the artist's travels in Italy, France and Switzerland.
ii) Two certificates, one from the Accademia Fiorentina delle belle Arti with accompanying letter and one from the Accademia Ducale di Belle Arti, Parma.
iii) Two insurance documents, printed with manuscript insertions, 1839.
iv) Copy of the agreement between Salter and F.G. Moon concerning the sale of copyright, an account for engravings, a sketch indicating the dimensions of the painting, a list of prints and a receipt dated 1857. v) Two indentures between Salter and Spackman, a print seller, 1844, 1845. A print of the Waterloo Banquet with manuscript key to the sitters with a printed guide to the picture and a printed booklet entitled Wellingtoniana by John Timbs, London, 1852.
vi) Three original drawings by Salter, The Order of the Golden Fleece, oil on paper; a Polish shako, inscribed, pen and ink; the neckbadge of the Order of the Bath, pen and ink with various correspondence regarding the painting and acquisition of the picture.
