Wright graduated from Smith College in 1904. She studied at the Art Students League between 1905 and 1910 with Herman MacNeil, Gutzon Borglum and James Earle Fraser. She then went to study in Paris at the Academie Colarossi and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts until 1912. It was in Paris where she became intrigued by the Cubist movement and began intergrating geometric forms and faceted planes into her own images. She is considered one of the first American sculptors to employ in her works these cubist forms. Her works executed between 1920 and 1940 were typically modelled figures that were affected or moved by the wind or motion.
