It has been suggested that the present drawing was executed in Bath. A possible source of inspiration for the present portrait was Gainsborough's Portrait of Anne Ford, later Mrs Philip Thickness, a picture that caused much excitement at the time. Worlidge's portrait reflects the vogue at the time for amateur music making.
