Elvis developed an interest in karate while stationed in Germany in the army in 1959. He quickly progressed in proficiency and received his black belt in 1960, finally achieving the eighth degree (master of the art-the hightest level) in the mid 1970s. Elvis frequently integrated karate movements into his stage show and at one point was planning a documentary on the subject which never came to fruition.
