cover 1856 (13 Feb.) entire letter from London to Bermuda carried by the Cunard Steamer "Curlew" which was wrecked on the reefs about 1½ miles east of North Rock on the morning of 18 March, inscribed "Via Liverpool, p R. M. Steamer" and showing London Paid despatch d.s., handstruck "5d" and Liverpool transit d.s.; some perimeter damage and water degradation to the paper. The lot includes copies of newspaper clippings of the time relating to the disaster. More recently this event was commemorated by the issue of a 10c. stamp from the 1986-90 "Ships Wrecked in Bermuda" series
