Davidson (1870-1963) was head of the silver and metalwork department at the Glasgow School of Art. He worked alongside Frances Macdonald and although the particular shape of the flying bird against the moon on the pendulum was often employed by both Mackintosh and the Macdonald sisters, the design was also used by Davidson in his work. Thereafter, the form was widely copied by a slightly younger generation of designers in Glasgow.
