Rawlins, 1 September 1862: "Dont believe any dam newspaper reports in reference to our Command We are all right have whipped the rebels five times in so many days." -- ROSECRANS, William. ALS to U.S. GRANT, 7 October 1862, Chineys Mill Bridge. Concerning "Rebel rear guard [who] passed Hatch this m[ornin]g...Hurlbut reports himself too much cut up to pursue." -- SMITH. ALS to Rawlins, 6 August 1862, endorsed on verso by Logan and McClerland, with GRANT AES (20 lines), & instructions regarding "payment for clothing lost in battle...Soldiers in furlough cannot draw commutation for rations in time of war." -- MISCELLANEOUS.
