Portrait of a young gentleman, half-length, in a red coat and blue mantle, sculpted cartouche

Sonmans, a native of Dordrecht, worked in both London and Oxford in a style similar to that of John Riley and Sir Godfrey Kneller. He came into prominence after Lely's death and was buried in London on 15 July 1708.
