A Rare Oriental Gilt Metal Inkwell and Double Penholder
Probably India, 19th Century
The covers suspending from openworked chains, the double cylindrical penholder with corded and beaded gadrooning and with raised Hebrew inscription naming the scribe: ha-Ish Asher Keset ha-Sofer be-Motnav, Sason son of Ezra Chay, the other side with flower band, the cylindrical circular inkwell with various applied foliate bands, the center inscribed in Hebrew with the owner's name David ben Sason, the domed cover with baluster finial and suspending from an openworked chain. It seems to have belonged to two generations of the same family.
