Please compare the present lot with a picture of the identical subject-matter in Pieter A. Scheen, Lexicon Nederlandse Beeldende Kunstenaars 1750-1950, The Hague, 1969, ill. 14. An almost identical version of the present lot was awarded a silver medal at the Tentoonstelling van Leevende Meesters, The Hague, in 1839 (no. 246).
