The snow Ancient Promise was built to the order of Alder's of Blythe by Barkes at Sunderland in 1866. Registered at 248 tons, she measured 102½ feet in length with a 26½ foot beam and traded out of Blythe to various destinations including the Baltic, the Mediterranean and latterly, the British West Indies.
