A large Sumida ware flattened circular vase
with short everted neck and pierced circular carrying handle, moulded in relief with numerous comical monkeys clambering around the body towards further monkeys playing on a large jar in the handle recess, all on a red ground with flambe glazes trailing over the shoulder -- 14½in. (36.7cm.) high, signed, 19th Century.
