A Victorian Scottish presentation 'cradle' rosebowl,
mounted to swing in two gilt metal uprights on a marble base, with presentation plaque inscribed "To Provost and Mrs Erskine on the birth of their daughter Agnes Duncan Adamson Erskine on 29 January 1899 during the Provost's period of office from members of the town council and other friends Municipal buidings, Greenock April 1899", the cradle in the form of a stylised long ship embossed with flowers and two oval cartouches, one chased with the municipal buildings, the other with putti, the body set with four applied quivers of arrows, two cast bird finials and two small cartouches with the crest of arms of Greenock, (gilded interior), makers mark J.R., possibly John Russell, Glasgow 1898, (with a plated grille) - 48cm overall, 35cm high, 53oz weighable silver, (in a wooden travelling case).
