For the attribution compare, for example, The Four Evangelists, in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Quimper, which although only tentatively attributed to Adelo by Nicolson is one of a small group of works given to this little known artist who was active in the 1620s (B. Nicolson, Caravaggism in Europe, 1979, I, p. 52; II, pl. 1122). Influenced by Dirck van Baburen (1590-1624), Adelo is only known through a few signed works, including Joseph before Pharoah, formerly in the Wallraf-Richartz Museum, Cologne, which is signed and dated 1625.
