Jean Georges (or George), seigneur de Bry, has been described by Charles Truman as "the most celebrated of the French gold box makers" (The Gilbert Collection of Gold Boxes), 1991, p. 71. He was one of the most successful goldsmiths in Paris and in 1762 was taxed the same amount as Francois-Thomas Germain, the royal goldsmith.
