MAKER'S MARK OF STARR & MARCUS, NEW YORK, CIRCA 1873

On spreading circular base with band of anthemion within scrolls on a matted ground, rising to an Ionic column stem mounted with an amphora strapped with drapery and crossed laurel branches, the cup applied with laurel branches and two bearded masks, the domed cover with similar band of anthemion and surmounted by a nude figure of a runner, the front engraved with the inscription BENNETT CUP American Intercollegiate Running Race At Hampden Park-Springfield, Mass.
