The original painting which Klaus Ertz dates to circa 1594/5 is based on the signed work by Brueghel in a German private collection (formerly with Silvano Lodi), an autograph verson of which was offered at Sotheby's, New York, Jan. 21, 1982, lot 147 (see K. Ertz, Jan Brueghel, der Ältere, 1979, p. 558, no. 8a, pl. 92b).
