The sitter was the elder daughter of Thomas Wilberfoss (1771-1830) of Menthorpe and his wife Jane, daughter of Matthew Blakeston of Elmswell Hall, Yorkshire. She married William Henry Bell of Portington Hall, Yorkshire, in 1833.
