The break-arch brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter disc with pierced blued steel hands, the center with calendar aperture and signed Mattw. Dutton, London, foliate spandrels, strike/silent lever above 12, the arch with subsidiary silvered chapter disc for pendulum regulation, the five pillar twin-gut fusee movment with anchor escapment and steel rod pendulum spring-suspended from the regulation bar above the plates, strike on bell, pendulum holdfast to the backplate engraved Mattw. Matthew Dutton was apprenticed to his father, William in 1771. The latter d. 1794, apprenticed to George Graham, 1673-1751 and had an illustrious partnership with Thomas Mudge, 1715-1794. Matthew and his brother Thomas were in partnership with their father (see lot 34) and later inherited the business and remained in Fleet Street between until 1825
