The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in 1913 as the No. 2 gun of a pair for the first Lord Greenway of Stanbridge Earls (cr. 1927). Lord Greenway was a senior partner in the firms of Shaw, Wallace & Co., India & Ceylon, and R.G. Shaw and Co., London. He was also President and one of the founders of the Anglo-Persian Oil Co. Ltd. (later to become British Petroleum). Born in 1857, he married in 1883, and two years later went to India to pursue his business career. Whilst there he took a prominent part in the commercial and industrial development of that country, and returned to Britain eventually in 1908. Thereafter he concerned himself actively in Banking and Commerce as well as the development and future interests of Persia. For the latter work he was appointed Grand Officer of the Lion and Sun, Persia. He was a known field sportsman and numbered the then Winston Churchill amongst his friends
