etching and drypoint, 1913, on wove paper, signed in pencil, annotated 'printed by John Marin sent out by 291', with full margins (the lower margin folded back 1 1/8-in.), a few scattered foxmarks, minor surface soiling and mat staining in the margins and on the reverse, time staining, old hinge remains at the reverse of the upper margin edge and at the lower margin fold, otherwise in good condition, framed

Marin was inspired by the skyscrapers and tall buildings of New York. He often, due to his love of the city, would portray the buildings in a positive light. In this print the Woolworth Building appears full of life and towering over its neighbors. This print demonstrates Marin's skill with the etching needle as well as his expressive use of lines which enabled the buildings to come alive. They almost appear to dance, bending and moving with the hustle and bustle of the busy city down below.
