A PAIR OF VICTORIAN REGIMENTAL MESS ARGALI HORN SNUFF MULLS WITH SILVER-PLATED MOUNTS
WITH INSCRIBED DATE 1881
Mounted on three brass ball supports on ebonised wood plinths, the cover of each snuff mull mounted with a silver-plated regimental badge, possibly an officer's pouch belt plate, of the 24th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers (The Post Office Rifles) and inscribed Ovis Ammon Horns brought from Himalayas by Major F. W. Kane. "The Buffs" appointed Adjutant, Post Office Rifles, 1880. Presented to Colonel His Serene Highness the Duke of Teck, G.C.B., Lieut. Colonel Duplat Taylor and officers, 24th Middlesex Post Office Rifle Regiment by Mrs. F. W. Kane, 1881., one plinth mounted to one side with a smaller version of the regimental badge
