Descriptif du lot

Another portrait of Donald MacLeod (1745-1834), from the collection of the Rev. John Mackenzie, was shown at the Raeburn exhibition in Edinburgh in 1876 (no. 176). That portrait is dated by Armstrong to circa 1800 (W. Armstrong, Sir Henry Raeburn, London, 1901, p. 108), and it would seem likely that the present picture dates to the same period. The MacLeod collection of silver is preserved in the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
