This picture relates closely to Lancret's painting of the same subject formerly in the collection of Frederick the Great, now in Charlottenburg Palace, Berlin (inv. no. GK 815). In 1732 Frederick the Great painted a copy of his picture, which was formerly in his collection in Monbijou Palace (P. Rosenberg, D. Madrella, Gesamtverzeichnis Französische Gemälde des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts in deutschen Sammlungen, Bonn/Munich, 2005, p. 100, under no. 506).
