Descriptif du lot

Known for his prowess in landscape painting, Fu was particularly fond of this present composition. Fu's 'wrinkle' technique in brushwork painting is clearly seen, through the twists and turns in the craggy rocks. Fu boldly employs heavy ink strokes and impregnates the paper with moisture, creating a misty, dense atmosphere that juxtaposes the defined outline of the mountains and rocks. This method was very much in line with the Japanese style of ink work , however, Fu had always insisted that his inspiration had come from the ink play of Song Dynasty painters.
The presence of three scholars on the rocks adds to the monumentality of the landscape, and acts as a focal paint of calmness amidst the rapidly flowing waterfall.
