In-4 (268 x 224 mm). Illustré par Pablo Picasso de 4 eaux-fortes hors texte. Broché, couverture de papier Japon imprimée en noir.
ÉDITION ORIGINALE DE CE LIVRE QUI MARQUE L'ÉCLOSION DE LA PÉRIODE CUBISTE DE PICASSO.
Tirage à 106 exemplaires. Un des 85 imprimés sur Hollande van Gelder, celui-ci n° 85 signé au justificatif par l'auteur et l'artiste.
Devant le refus de Derain, Kahnweiler s'adressa à Picasso pour illustrer cette oeuvre de Max Jacob probablement inspirée par son étrange apparition de 1909. Picasso composa ces gravures lors d'un séjour à Cadaquès, en 1910. "Toutes ces gravures se placent à une phase décisive de l'élaboration du cubisme et représentent, par leur valeur artistique, des points de repère importants dans l'oeuvre de Picasso" (Goeppert-Cramer).
