Event date June 2022
Event location London & Online
This June, delve into the enchanting world of Marc Chagall with two auctions dedicated to the work of the acclaimed artist.
Streamed live on 28 June and kicking off our 20th/21st Century: London to Paris auction series, Marc Chagall, Colour of Life: Works Formerly from the Artist’s Estate is a headline auction featuring 20 works that reflects the full range of Chagall’s multifaceted oeuvre and offering a rare insight into the artist’s unique creative spirit. Chagall forged a bold path within modern art in pursuit of his own singular vision, conjuring fantastical, dream-like scenes, rooted in his own personal life and rich memories and filtered through a highly idiosyncratic, painterly vocabulary.
Taking place online from 14–30 June, Marc Chagall, Colour of Life: Prints and Artist’s Books Formerly from the Artist’s Estate celebrates Chagall’s life-long love of printmaking and features works made over a period of sixty years – offered on the market for the first time and in remarkably fine condition. The sale includes lithographs made at the legendary Imprimerie Mourlot on Rue de Chabrol and several rare proofs extensively hand-coloured in gouache or pastel. Highlights include L’Auge, and Le Magicien de Paris – the motif from the poster of Chagall’s Grand Palais exhibition in 1969–70.
