Lot Essay

Reference 2484J
The Ref. 2484J belongs to a brief yet fascinating chapter in Patek Philippe's post-war production. Made from roughly 1950 to the early 1960s in only a few hundred examples, it stands at the meeting point of two Patek traditions: the pure restraint of the Calatrava line, introduced in 1932, and the maison's bold experiments with sculptural case design during the mid-century era.
Its nickname, "Disco Volante" (Flying Saucer), is immediately apparent. The stepped, fluted bezel and turned-down lugs give the watch an aerodynamic profile unlike any standard Calatrava. The case was crafted by Wenger, the respected Geneva case maker that also supplied cases for the legendary Ref. 2499 perpetual calendar chronograph—a genuine mark of mid-century quality.

The 2484J offers collectors something increasingly rare: genuine scarcity, a distinctive design, and an accessible entry point into vintage Patek Philippe ownership.
