Within the landscape of independent watchmaking, H. Moser & Cie. has established itself as a leading proponent of traditional Swiss craftsmanship combined with a distinctly modern aesthetic. Since its acquisition by the Meylan family in 2012, the manufacture has produced a series of highly original timepieces that have garnered an increasingly global following. Notably, in 2006, the Perpetual 1 was awarded the prize for best complicated watch at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
The present timepiece is a great example of this philosophy as its unique dial reinterprets the traditional art of enameling in a modern way. The surface is first textured to make it look like it has been hammered, and then several pigments are added and mixed together. The result is a fumé dial with a lot of depth, texture, and a strong visual presence.
The case construction further reflects the manufacture’s design sensibility, characterised by fluid, uninterrupted lines that lend the watch a distinctive and modern profile. Of particular note is the integrated stainless steel bracelet, a first for the brand. Inspired by the Streamline Moderne aesthetic of the 1930s, the bracelet eschews sharp angles in favour of smooth, flowing curves, offering both visual dynamism and exceptional comfort on the wrist.
Powering the timepiece is the in-house calibre HMC 500, the manufacture’s first automatic movement featuring a platinum micro-rotor.
