Lot Essay

ASTON MARTIN. JAMES BOND.
ARGUABLY THE MOST ICONIC PARTNERSHIP IN MODERN CINEMATIC HISTORY.

What has become one of the most notable partnerships in cinematic history began with the release of Goldfinger in 1964, when the iconic Aston Martin DB5 made its silver screen debut. The DB5 went on to become one of the world’s most recognisable cars and a crucial step in Aston Martin’s illustrious ‘DB’ bloodline. Now, the latest evolution in that lineage has had the 007 treatment.

To mark the 60th anniversary of this historic cinematic partnership in 2024, just 60 DB12 Goldfinger Editions were released worldwide, to pay tribute to a relationship that has spanned over half of Aston Martin’s illustrious 112-year history. The edition quickly sold out, and this car, numbered 0⁄60 was reserved for Eon Productions and so is now the final new car to become available from this milestone limited edition.

The car is being offered for sale by Amazon MGM Studio for charity. The hammer proceeds will be equally divided between four charities chosen by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli: Into Film, National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, The London Screen Academy and Uk Time’s Up.

DB12 Goldfinger Edition

Whilst the DB5 that featured in Goldfinger was equipped with all the gadgets needed to escape Bond’s adversaries, the DB12 Goldfinger Edition is focused on providing a more indulgent James Bond driving experience, incorporating subtle touches from the Goldfinger film.

Presented in the iconic 'Silver Birch' paint colour synonymous with the DB5 in Goldfinger, the DB12 Goldfinger Edition establishes an immediate statement. Striking 21” multi-spoke wheels with a unique silver colour with a diamond treatment finish are complemented by black brake calipers, bespoke gold side strakes and a unique Aston Martin logo in silver with a black enamel. Crowned with a bright chrome ‘Q’ fender badge which gives confirmation that this DB12 has received some truly bespoke touches.

Inside this special edition, the leather SportsPlus seats are finished in the classic DB5 fluted style with an intricate Glen Urquhart Check perforation pattern, in a nod to a classic James Bond suit. This pattern extends to both the door inserts and the headliner, as well as being etched onto a unique treadplate. A polished sill plaque adorns the infamous 007 logo.

Adding an elevated level of ultra-luxury to the interior of the car and awaiting the driver’s touch is 18k Gold Plated interior accents, decorating the drive mode rotary dial and the roller controls, as well as the notched gear selector which takes design inspiration from the golden tracking device used by Bond in the film. This theme is also continued through the trim inlays, as gold metal fibres are woven into the 2X2 Twill Gloss Carbon Fibre.

A subtle nod for Bond aficionados is the ’eight of hearts’ embroidered onto the drivers’ sun visor, which references the playing card seen in the last draw during the famous Miami pool scene in Goldfinger.

Special additions for the new owner of this DB12 Goldfinger Edition

This car will come with a series of items exclusive to this car including a James Bond Goldfinger 60th Anniversary film poster, which will be signed by and dedicated to the winning bidder by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli following the auction; a copy of the new James Bond Cars book, published by Assouline, New York, 2025, signed by the author, Chris Corbould, OBE, the Academy Award-winning visual effects coordinator who has worked on fifteen Bond films and a copy of the special brochure for the Goldfinger 007 Edition signed by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

Each Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger Edition was also presented with an array of gifts as exclusive as the car itself which will also be included with this car, the car specially reserved for Eon Productions – numbered 0⁄60, comprising: a specially designed car cover; a Globe-Trotter attaché case containing a key box in the form of a 'gold ingot', a speed form model and a limited-edition magazine; a replica section of 35mm film from one of the iconic scenes in Goldfinger together with a series of facsimile script pages from the film and a magnum of vintage Bollinger Champagne, individually numbered and four Bollinger 007 glasses, presented in a bespoke Globe-Trotter Air Cabin Case.

From the moment Q first introduced 007 to the Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger (1964), Bond’s timeless relationship with the iconic British brand began. The Silver Birch coupé has since become synonymous with the character of James Bond. Across the decades. Across the globe. Now, the world’s first super tourer pays tribute to the world’s most famous coupé. To celebrate 60 years of the seminal film, the legendary partnership was immortalised in a limited run of 60(+1) super tourers - the exquisitely engineered Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger Edition of which this, numbered 0⁄60, is the last unregistered car to come to the market from the otherwise sold out edition. The auction of this car now represents a unique opportunity to Bond fans and motoring enthusiasts alike.

London Screen Academy is a state funded sixth form in north London for young people aged 16 to 19 who are passionate about film, television and the screen industries. We were created by some of the UK’s leading production companies to address a long standing issue in the industry: too many talented young people were being locked out because they did not have the networks, access or opportunities to get started. LSA was set up to change that.

Our mission is to diversify the screen industries by ensuring that every young person, regardless of background, can access world class creative and technical education. We offer a practical, industry led curriculum that blends craft, production and technical skills, supported by strong professional behaviours and inclusive culture.
