This painting is based on a number of studies made of a Bull Elephant in the Kruger Game Park. The artist had managed to be at a distance of 20 yards from the Lone Elephant which had become separated from the main herd. It was during the sketching of the Elephant that for some reason the Elephant became disturbed and charged the artist who was obsering the animal from his car. This painting along with the other two lots all have the artist's unusual monogram . A small mouse can be found hidden somewhere within the composition. This monogram has been used by the artist since his commision for the official Coronation Painting in 1953.
