Lot Essay

A comparable table, with similar bent laminated supports, stamped CHAPUIS, was sold at Christie's Paris on 22 June 2004, lot 222.

Jean-Joseph Chapuis (1765-1864) established his first workshop in Brussels in 1798. In 1806 he was called to value French furniture at the château de Laeken and thereafter supplied furniture for the château himself.
