AN ISLAMIC MAGIC BOWL of shallow hemispherical form, the interior engraved with concentric bands of fine naskh developing towards the centre into 'magic' script around six cusped quatrefoils, each depicting one of the ailments that the bowl is meant to assist; scorpion, snake, stomach pain, mad dog, wild horse and childbirth, the central roundel with a magic square of numerals, the rim with a further band of inscription, the exterior with three interlaced bands forming variously shaped panels of 'magic' script, a band of naskh around the rim, 13/14th century (very slightly rubbed, depictions originally inlaid with silver)
