Our multi-purpose space is dedicated to showcasing auction highlight exhibitions, private selling exhibitions, educational events and panel discussions. With a robust program of exhibitions and events throughout the year, Christie’s Los Angeles provides art collectors and art lovers access to world-class works from around the globe. Join us at Christie’s Los Angeles for a focused presentation of works by Kerry James Marshall, anchored by Untitled (1998–1999).
Kerry James Marshall is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of his generation, celebrated for his unwavering commitment to centering Black subjects within the grand tradition of Western art history. Across four decades, he has fused art-historical precedent with contemporary life, creating works that are formally rigorous, intellectually layered, and profoundly human.
This curated presentation offers a focused lens onto that practice, anchored by Untitled (1998–1999). Conceived at a pivotal moment in the artist’s career and executed entirely by Marshall, the work reflects his sustained engagement with representation, community, and the politics of visibility. Together, the works on view underscore the throughline of his oeuvre: a continual reshaping of the canon to more fully reflect the complexity and dignity of Black life.
