Le 23 octobre prochain, Christie’s Paris présentera une vente exceptionnelle en deux sessions, réunissant une sélection d’œuvres majeures allant de l’art impressionniste et moderne jusqu’à la pointe de la création contemporaine. Ces œuvres offrent un panorama riche de plus d’un siècle de création artistique.
La première session mettra à l’honneur plusieurs ensembles emblématiques. Parmi eux figureront 31 œuvres provenant de la collection Durand-Ruel, rendant hommage à la vision exceptionnelle du célèbre marchand Paul Durand-Ruel. Figure majeure de la défense de l’impressionnisme, celui-ci contribua notamment à faire connaître l’œuvre de Claude Monet et de Camille Pissarro, tout en accompagnant la génération postimpressionniste qui leur succéda. Cet ensemble réunira notamment des œuvres particulièrement recherchées d’Eugène Durenne et de Gustave Loiseau.
La vente présentera également 35 œuvres issues de la célèbre collection américaine de Marlene et Spencer Hays, mettant particulièrement à l’honneur les artistes Nabis, avec de remarquables exemples de Paul Ranson, Xavier Ker-Roussel et Édouard Vuillard. Parmi les collections phares figurera également Radiant Modernism: Signac to Albers, réunissant des œuvres majeures d’Odilon Redon et de Félix Vallotton, ainsi qu’un ensemble remarquable d’aquarelles de Paul Signac.
Le mouvement surréaliste sera également représenté à travers une sélection spectaculaire d’œuvres sur papier de Leonora Carrington et Hans Bellmer. Parmi les autres temps forts figureront plusieurs redécouvertes de maîtres majeurs de l’art moderne, notamment Pablo Picasso, Pierre Bonnard et Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
La seconde session, consacrée à l’art d’après-guerre et contemporain, rassemble une sélection d’œuvres majeures et d’artistes phares. On y retrouve Josef Albers, Alexander Calder, Keith Haring, Gerhard Richter ou encore Fernando Botero parmi les grands noms internationaux, aux côtés de Jean Fautrier, Nicolas de Staël, Yves Klein, Sam Szafran et Serge Poliakoff, dont les œuvres ont façonné le socle de l’art français.
Une section dédiée, Thinking Italian, met une nouvelle fois à l’honneur l’avant-garde italienne d’Alighiero Boetti, Mario Schifano, Salvo, Fausto Melotti ou encore Salvatore Scarpitta, et souligne l’influence durable de cette génération d’artistes sur la scène contemporaine. La vente accorde également une place toute particulière aux artistes femmes, avec un ensemble d’œuvres recherchées de Fabienne Verdier, Daisy Parris, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Anna-Eva Bergman, Louise Bourgeois, Miriam Cahn et Niki de Saint Phalle.
Enfin, point d’orgue de cette vente, un ensemble exceptionnel provenant de la Collection Antonio Homem Sonnabend, l’une des figures les plus influentes du monde de l’art des XXe et XXIe siècles, illustré par des œuvres de Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, Anselm Kiefer, Jean Dubuffet et bien d’autres encore.
Entre chefs-d’œuvre impressionnistes et modernes, figures majeures de l’après-guerre et regards contemporains, la vente met en lumière les résonances, les influences et les héritages qui continuent d’animer le paysage artistique d’aujourd’hui, à découvrir lors de notre exposition ouvrant ses portes le 16 octobre prochain.

On 23 October, Christie’s Paris will present an exceptional two-session sale, bringing together a selection of major works ranging from Impressionist and Modern art to the forefront of contemporary creation. Together, these works offer a rich panorama spanning more than a century of artistic innovation.
The first session will spotlight several landmark collections. Among them are 31 works from the Durand-Ruel Collection, paying tribute to the exceptional vision of the renowned dealer Paul Durand-Ruel. A pivotal champion of Impressionism, he played a key role in promoting the work of Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro, while also supporting the Post-Impressionist generation that followed. This group includes particularly sought-after works by Eugène Durenne and Gustave Loiseau.
The sale will also feature 35 works from the celebrated American collection of Marlene and Spencer Hays, with a particular focus on the Nabis artists, including remarkable examples by Paul Ranson, Xavier Ker-Roussel and Édouard Vuillard. Also among the sale's highlights is Radiant Modernism: Signac to Albers, bringing together major works by Odilon Redon and Félix Vallotton, alongside an exceptional group of watercolours by Paul Signac.
The Surrealist movement will be represented through a spectacular selection of works on paper by Leonora Carrington and Hans Bellmer. Other highlights include several rediscoveries by major masters of Modern art, notably Pablo Picasso, Pierre Bonnard and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
The second session, dedicated to Post-War and Contemporary Art, brings together a selection of major works by leading artists. It features internationally celebrated names such as Josef Albers, Alexander Calder, Keith Haring, Gerhard Richter and Fernando Botero, alongside Jean Fautrier, Nicolas de Staël, Yves Klein, Sam Szafran and Serge Poliakoff, whose works helped shape the foundations of modern French art.
A dedicated section, Thinking Italian, once again celebrates the Italian avant-garde through works by Alighiero Boetti, Mario Schifano, Salvo, Fausto Melotti and Salvatore Scarpitta, underscoring the lasting influence of this generation of artists on the contemporary art scene. The sale also places a special emphasis on women artists, with a selection of sought-after works by Fabienne Verdier, Daisy Parris, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Anna-Eva Bergman, Louise Bourgeois, Miriam Cahn and Niki de Saint Phalle.
Finally, the crowning highlight of the sale is an exceptional group of works from the Antonio Homem Sonnabend Collection, one of the most influential figures in the art world of the 20th and 21st centuries, featuring works by Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, Anselm Kiefer, Jean Dubuffet and many others.
Bringing together Impressionist and Modern masterpieces, major Post-War figures and contemporary voices, the sale highlights the resonances, influences and legacies that continue to shape today’s artistic landscape. The works will be on view during our exhibition opening on 16 October.
